Latest Study About Driver Inattention (click image for the story)

Other studies show that multitasking is a myth, even when performing tasks one is familiar with.  We humans actually serial task – our brains concentrate on one task at a time in a linear fashion.  Some folks may be able to switch between tasks more quickly but even so, when you are texting, your brain is not concentrating on any other task.

The photo in the news story (see below) shows a driver operating the steering wheel with his/her wrists while texting – the SMARTwheel would certainly be a help in fighting this driver’s inattentive and dangerous behavior.  Remember, there is no text in the world worth injury or death from a car crash.

The guilty verdict handed down in Massachusetts’ first driver texting trial brings the dangers of distracted driving back into the public eye.  For us, distracted driving has been our ongoing cause since 2009.  We have continued to develop and promote our SMARTwheel™ as a critical tool for curbing distracted driving – especially for teen drivers.  We’re doing everything we can to get the SMARTwheel™ to the marketplace and to the drivers that need it most – teens.  We know teens need it because we’re teenagers, too.

So the question is – was the ice cream worth it? Thankfully, the injuries were non-life threatening but even so, consider the hospital costs, vehicle repair or replacement costs, towing costs, lost work and the fact that she was charged with negligent driving and driving with a suspended registration – all for a frozen dairy treat, really? The road was closed for 12 hours, residents went without power – because she had to have a cone.

Ask yourself these questions:
Can any driver really point fingers at Ms.Temple? Think of how much of your field

of vision is blocked when you tip up your supersized coffee cup or a bottle of water. Sure, you may be keeping your eyes on the road but you have to admit – it’s not the whole road.

Why didn’t the passenger speak up and demand that the person to whom she was entrusting her life put her full attention on the road? Passengers need to take charge of their own safety. Hey, when you are a passenger, don’t accept unsafe behavior from your driver! Passengers unite!

Do you think that reading about this near tragedy will really keep people from giving in to the frozen creamy goodness of the consummate summer treat when they are driving? We don’t think so. Cars need a wheel that’s SMART because clearly, we can’t depend on drivers to be.
